In a typical example, a patient monitor
manufacturer desires to add Respiratory Mechanics monitoring to a new
ventilator. After researching the market, the manufacturer decides that
a system compatible with a fixed orifice flow sensor (like the EZ-Flow
Sensor) is desirable for proximal monitoring and minimal per-patient
cost.
The manufacturer finds our website and
decides to purchase the Respiratory Mechanics Evaluation Kit. The PC
software is loaded, and the engineers begin to evaluate the
functionality of the Module. Below is a screen capture of the
demonstration software.

After observing the basic functionality of
the Respiratory Mechanics Module, the engineers begin to plan the
integration of the Module into the final product. The engineers use the
Communication Protocol included with the Kit to send commands and
observe responses from the Module. The manufacturer decides to proceed
with the product development, and places an order for more Modules to
build prototypes and clinical test units. If desired, the Modules can
be ordered in custom configurations:
-
19,200 or 38,400 baud
-
even, odd or no parity
-
waveform datarates from 0 to 100Hz
-
enabled or disabled transmission of
numeric parameters
-
with or without purge pump
-
with or without tubing detection
